IN A CHARMING NEW ENGLAND INN
NORWICH, Conn - What do you do for a romantic weekend at a classic New England country inn that is also a highly regarded spa?
At the Spa at Norwich Inn, you have a choice when you book one of the new, flexible weekend (and weekday) Country Retreat Getaway Packages. These packages include guestroom and two meals per day, leaving guests the options of either booking award-winning, luxurious spa services on an a la carte basis or getting into the car and striking off on their own. Those who choose to explore the local countryside can play golf, go antiquing, drive the rural backroads or visit nearby attractions, including Mystic Seaport, the Mashantucket Pequot Museum and Research Center and Foxwoods Resort Casino.
"These packages allow guests who want stress relief and pampering to choose their own spa treatments when they make their reservations, and they allow guests who want to explore the very charming New England countryside around us plenty of time to do so," said John G. O'Shaughnessy, the spa's general manager.
The historic Norwich Inn was built in 1929 and offered nearby golf, horseback riding and summer stock theater to city dwellers who wanted a luxurious country escape. In the property's early days, it hosted celebrities who including George Bernard Shaw, Charles Laughton, Frank Sinatra and the Prince of Wales.
In 1983, a spa was built on the property, making it a magnet for stars like Barbra Streisand, Michael Douglas and Joan Rivers. A $15 million renovation completed in 2000 doubled the size of the spa and saw the return of celebrities, including Barbara Walters, Tony Bennett, Chris Rock, Gloria Estefan and Regis Philbin, who have enjoyed the luxurious accommodations, lavish meals, personal services and top-notch spa treatments for which the property is known.
The Spa at Norwich Inn is ranked in the Top Ten Spas in the Zagat Guide to U.S. Hotels, Resorts and Spas and has been voted by the readers of SpaFinder Magazine as one of the Top Ten Spas in the U.S. for massage services and skin care services.
The Country Getaway Retreat weekend package is priced at $185 per person, per night, plus tax and gratuity, for 2-4 persons sharing a guestroom on Friday and Saturday nights. The package includes breakfast and dinner, and a two-night weekend stay is required. A single supplement is $130.00 per night, plus tax. Spa services, if desired, must be booked on an a la carte basis. A concierge is available to assist guests who want to explore the local countryside.
The weekday price for the package is $135.00 per person per night, plus tax and gratuity, for 2-4 persons sharing a guestroom. The single supplement is $70, plus tax.
