THE SPA AT NORWICH INN
NAMED A 2009 EDITORS' CHOICE
IN YANKEE MAGAZINE'S
TRAVEL GUIDE TO NEW ENGLAND
NORWICH, Conn. – The Spa at Norwich Inn has been selected as a 2009 Editors' Choice in Yankee Magazine's Travel Guide to New England. The Editors' Choice recommendations designate Yankee editors' and writers' favorite restaurants, lodgings, attractions, and bargains across New England. YANKEE recognized The Spa at Norwich Inn for "Best Pampering in Connecticut."
The Spa at Norwich Inn opened in 1930 as the Norwich Inn, and continues to have at its heart this original red brick Georgian Colonial Revival building. It added a Spa and adjacent villas to its charming New England setting in the 1980s, giving it 100 guest rooms. It is a member of Historic Hotels of America
YANKEE wrote the following about The Spa at Norwich Inn:
"Best Pampering:
"At this gracious Georgian manor-turned-country-inn-turned-spa, your R&R comes via state-of-the-art treatments, a health-conscious restaurant, tennis, and swimming. Sound too tame? You're just five minutes from the action at Mohegan Sun, 15 from Foxwoods and the MGM Grand. Rates from $175. Call for special packages. 800-275-4772."
"Travel may never have been as important to our psyche as it is now; we may have lost money, but not curiosity," said Yankee editor Mel Allen in a press release announcing the travel guide's choices. "We still need the fun and adventure and stimulation that travel, more than anything else, gives us. And no place I know lets you see so much – from mountains and deep, clear lakes to storybook village and world-class museums, all within a few hours of one another – as New England does."
The Spa at Norwich Inn is an intimate, 100- guestroom retreat. It is home to an elegant, world-class spa offering a blend of fitness programs, nutritional instruction and beauty and body treatments designed to restore and rejuvenate the mind, body and spirit. Guests are housed either in the 1930 Georgian Colonial inn building or in villas with wood-burning fireplaces and balconies.
It has been rated "Excellent" since 2003 in the annual Zagat Survey of U.S. Hotels, Resorts and Spas; named "Best Destination Spa in New England" in the 70th Anniversary of YANKEE Magazine and "Best Resort in Connecticut" in 2006 by New England Travel & Life. The readers of Connecticut magazine have voted it "Best Day Spa" for 11 years in a row, and it has been named to the "Best of Connecticut Hall of Fame."
