AT THE HISTORIC SPA AT NORWICH INN, WEDDINGS, GET-AWAYS ARE
MORE ROMANTIC, MORE RELAXED AND MORE MEMORABLE

NORWICH, Conn. – A charming historic hotel that just happens to have the best destination spa in New England is a blissfully romantic place to have a wedding, according to Kimberly McCurdy, Director of Romance and Revels at The Spa at Norwich Inn.

“The romance of the bride and groom is paramount,“ McCurdy said, “But wedding guests and regular guest also can be drawn into a mood of relaxation and romance because of the beauty of our Connecticut property and the pampering of our spa services.”

What are some of the best places for romance at The Spa at Norwich Inn, a historic Georgian- Colonial revival red brick country inn located mid-way between New York and Boston? Kim McCurdy, who has a keen eye and imagination for romance, suggests the following:

  • Sipping champagne on the Verandah deck as the sun sets over the rolling landscape of the adjacent Norwich Golf Course and the hills of Eastern Connecticut
  • A night in the Terrace suite, which offers a whirlpool tub-for-two (increase the romance quotient by adding the Spa’s private-label Lavender Bubble Bath), a charming bedroom and living room and its own private deck.
  • Lounging together in the property’s beautiful gardens
  • Stealing a kiss by the reflecting pool
  • Enjoying a cozy dinner in front of the fireplace and under the antique girandole mirror in Ascot’s, the pine-paneled pub
  • Sharing a superb bottle of wine from Kensington’s award-winning private cellar, which specializes in boutique, small-production California wineries

As for weddings, the spa’s romantic gardens, pools and fountains, along with the classic Georgian Colonial Revival inn itself, provide just the right atmosphere, serving as beautiful backdrops for wedding ceremonies and photography. Wedding receptions take place in the Grand Ballroom or Hunt Room, or outdoors in a tent.

The property offers six wedding packages, as well as the willingness to create a custom-tailored package for brides who have particular elements in mind. Executive Chef Daniel Chong-Jimenez enjoys the challenge of creating special menus that recognize the couple’s family traditions or an interesting idea or concept. McCurdy is also prepared to create simple, serene and sophisticated “elopement” packages for couples.

The Spa itself is an important part of a wedding at The Spa at Norwich Inn. The bride and groom each receive a complimentary massage to help them feel restful and relaxed even as all eyes will be focused on them. And the bride does not have to fear rushing around town for multiple appointments on her wedding day. The property has its own hair salon, offers manicures and pedicures in its Spa and custom make-up applications in its Spa Boutique.

And what is the most important advice the Director of Romance and Revels can provide to the bride and groom, once she and he are happy with all the planned arrangements?

“At that point, the couple has to take a step back and trust our experienced professional staff to step in and make the wedding unfold just as they dreamed. Then we can do our job, and they can relax and be guests at their own wedding,” McCurdy says.  “And that’s the most romantic kind of wedding to have.”

The Spa at Norwich Inn is an intimate, 100- guestroom retreat. It is home to an elegant, world-class spa offering a blend of fitness programs, nutritional instruction and beauty and body treatments designed to restore and rejuvenate the mind, body and spirit. Guests are housed either in the 1930 Georgian Colonial inn building, or in villas with wood-burning fireplaces and balconies. Yankee Magazine named it the “Top Destination Spa in New England” in its 70th Anniversary issue; Boston Magazine’s New England Travel & Life named it one of its “2006 Best of New England” Hotels, Inns & Resorts. It was been named one of the Top Ten Spas in the nation in 2003, 2005 and 2005 in the Zagat Survey of U.S. Hotels, Resorts and Spas; voted as one of the Top Ten Spas in the nation for massage in 2002 and for massage and facial skin care in 2003 by the readers of Spa Finder magazine; and voted “Best Day Spa” by the readers of Connecticut Magazine for eight years in a row.
