THE SPA AT NORWICH INN NAMED 'BEST DESTINATION SPA IN CONNECTICUT' BY THE EDITORS OF CONNECTICUT MAGAZINE
Property is also named to "Best of the East" list in Meetings East magazine and wins “Award of Excellence” from Wine Spectator magazine, all for the year 2009
NORWICH, Conn. – The spa at Norwich Inn has garnered a trio of awards in 2009: "Best Destination Spa in Connecticut" from the Editors of Connecticut Magazine, a "Best of the East" award in Meetings East magazine, both in September, and an Award of Excellence from Wine Spectator magazine in July.
"I’m proud of how well our staff worked as a team to win these three awards," said General Manager John G. O’Shaughnessy. The Spa and Kensington’s, our restaurant, are the most visible parts of our property, but staff in guest services, food and beverage, sales, retail, reservations, banquets, housekeeping, and engineering contributed equally to create the total experience that impressed the magazines."
The Spa has already been admitted to the "Best of Connecticut Hall of Fame" for winning "Best Day Spa in Connecticut" for 10 years and it was named "Best Resort in Connecticut" last year.
Connecticut Magazine wrote:
"There are spas . . . and then there are otherworldly experiences. The Spa at Norwich Inn is in the latter category. The beauty of this full-service heavenly retreat tucked into the woods lies in its comfort level (very high) and array of offerings . . . choose from fitness programs, nutritional instruction and beauty and body treatments. You’ll get lots of personal attention here – whether you stay for a day or a month. Packages are designed to highlight the spa’s special services (which are surprisingly affordable), but go á la carte if you prefer."
The Meetings East award, which the Spa has won for the seventh time in eight years, recognizes the best locations in the East for business retreats, meetings and conferences. The prize is based on a poll of the magazine’s audience of meeting planners.
Kensington’s Restaurant at the spa, which is open daily to the public, was recognized for its list of over 425 wines, specializing in boutique, small-production California wines, as well French, Italian, Spanish, and Southern Hemisphere selections. The award reflects "a well-chosen selection of quality producers, along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style."
The 100-room property, which includes accommodations in the 1930 Georgian Colonial Revival-style inn and in adjacent villas, is a member of the National Trust Historic Hotels of America • National Trust for Historic Preservation.
